Whetu Home Learning

In Year 3 and 4, it continues to be incredibly important that your child reads as much as they can, and as wide a variety of texts that they can. It also continues to be important that they are read to, share books with others, and see the adults around them as readers. We would really like the children to aim for around 20 minutes per day. Of course more than this is more than fine!

While your child is reading books on the colour wheel, books will come home from school with them. Please read the books with your child, and discuss what is happening in them. These books will be relatively easy for your child to read as the purpose of books going home is to practice fluency with a book the children are confident about.

When your child is off the colour wheel, books no longer come home from school. Our librarians, Bronwyn and Anita are very knowledgeable about children's literature, and are more than happy to talk to you about books that are suitable for your child. The children's librarians at the Auckland City Libraries are also very helpful to talk to, as is your child's teacher!
